“Oh—if there’s one thing us youth pastors and leaders need to work on…to work hard at, to work relentlessly at…it is to guard our hearts.

Because the work that God is doing in us is more important than the work he is doing through us.

If you want to have a great ministry, then before you put all your effort into building a bigger program, or building bigger facilities, or building a bigger music ministry, or building a bigger PR department…above all else, work hard to build a bigger heart.

Because as you let God build a bigger heart in you, you will discover that he is also able to build a bigger ministry to flow through you.

Ask God to search your heart, and to change anything which is a barrier to your being the person that he wants you to be.

  1. Very true. What we fill ourselves with is what we will pour into those we minister to, whether kids, students or their families. If we are growing in Christ, we have a full meal to offer, but if our habits are sparse, we will only, at best, give others appetizers.
